ART Data for Layar Reality Browser

This free tool works with Android devices and iPhones (3GS and newer). The technology is called "Augmented Reality," and allows users to look through their phone as if they were going to take a picture, and see superimposed information about their surroundings. The ART data shows the direction and distance to ART stops, and provides ART RealTime arrival information. See the ART on Layar page for more information

Tools from WMATA

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) operates the regional Metro system and is often referred to as "Metro." WMATA offers a Trip Planner that includes information for ART and other local bus systems, and uses the NextBus system to provide real-time arrival information for Metrobus. eAlerts are available for Metrorail, MetroAccess and Metro system elevators.

Trip Planner

Use the WMATA Trip Planner to plan point-to-point trips using Metrobus, Metrorail, and D.C.-area local bus systems, including ART. The Trip Planner takes into account the date and time of your trip, and allows you to select your preferences, such as how far you're willing to walk and whether you'd rather minimize trip time or the number of transfers. The Trip Planner is also available for mobile devices.

NextBus

Real-time arrival information for Metrobus is available in several different ways, including tools for desktop computers, tools for web-enabled wireless devices, electronic signs at Meto stations, and by calling Metro Customer Service from a touchtone phone or cell phone.  WMATA About Next Bus page.

Tools for Developers

ART makes schedule data and other information available to to developers to use in their own applications. If you come up with something useful, please let us know so we can provide a link to it!

Google's General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS)

GTFS is an open format, used by Google to combine schedule and route data from transit agencies with geographic data for use in applications, like Google Maps. Other software developers may be able to use this data for other applications.

Arlington Transit (ART) makes its schedule and route data freely available.

Download GTFS data below, and subscribe to the GTFS RSS feed for updates on when schedules change and the data is republished.

Web Services

ART provides basic news and schedule information as web services, for developers who want to use it in their applications and websites. The information is presented via Web Services Description Language (WSDL), an XML-based messaging system. The information provided by the WSDL is open to the public.
